Erkennbar ist die hormonell ausgelöste Akne an tiefen Pickelmalen im Kinn- und Halsbereich, gelegentlich auch am Nacken und Rücken, anders als bei der "normalen" Akne, die eher in der T-Zone lokalisiert ist.

In der Pubertät sind aufgrund des Anstiegs der Sexualhormone Männer wie Frauen betroffen. Später leiden Frauen deutlich häufiger darunter. Wir sind einfach öfter Hormonschwankungen unterworfen, sei es beispielsweise durch den Zyklus - das Absetzen der Pille, einer Schwangerschaft oder der Menopause.
